Radio presenter Alex Mwakideu has expressed concern over the rising number of negative conversations about marriage on social media.

Speaking on his Instagram page on Monday, October 27, 2025, Mwakideu said he was puzzled by how many people, especially those who are divorced or single, have started attacking the idea of marriage.

“Let me say this, I don’t know what is going on. I have no idea. But it seems to me, something is just cooking. This anti-marriage conversation is going on on social media. What is it about? What’s up? Nini mbaya?” he said.

Mwakideu questioned the growing trend where people openly discredit marriage, saying it has become too common for users online to portray it as meaningless.

“The other day, marriage hubamba mafala, I have a lot of questions I am asking myself. Hii kelele ingine ya watu hawajaoa, ama hawajaolewa ama wame divorce inakua mingi sana mtandaoni,” he added.

Mwakideu says marriage is not a scam

The radio host said that although he has faced challenges in his own marriage, he will never dismiss the institution or call it a scam.

“Let me say this, to date, I have my issues kwa marriage yangu. But even if I get divorced today, you will never ever hear me say marriage is a scam. No way. Come on, stop that nonsense. Achana na hiyo story. Hakuna kitu kama hiyo,” he said.

Mwakideu said that marriage, like any other serious decision in life, requires preparation, effort, and understanding. He compared it to starting a business, saying people should take time to learn and understand their partners before committing.

“Today, even if you want to start your business, you have to do your research. It is a restaurant you are starting, so you are going to do your research properly. It is the same thing when it comes to marriage. You can’t just get married and come out here and say marriage is a scam, no. Do you give it the attention that it needs? Je ulifanya research ya huyo mtu unaoa?” he asked.

Mwakideu urged people to stop normalising negativity about relationships online, noting that marriage, despite its challenges, remains a valuable institution that deserves respect and effort from both partners.
