Esther Karimi, the woman caught in the mysterious death of a male friend during a sexual encounter in Changamwe, Mombasa said that the man whom she has dated for a year fainted during the act.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday, January 17, Karimi, a mother of one, said the businessman known to her as Steven Kariuki, often visited her for a good time but always returned to his family in Mtwapa.

“My friend came to my house at around 2pm [Saturday]. Upon entering the house, he went straight to the bathroom for a short call and then asked me to go to the bedroom. Suddenly, he fainted in the process of making love. We have dated for one year,” said Karimi.

After he fainted, Karimi notified neighbours who quickly rushed him to the hospital by a Tuk Tuk. However, upon arrival at Bomu Hospital, the man was pronounced dead.

“I was shocked because it’s something we did not expect,” she said.

Karimi said that the businessman told her that he worked at an EPZ company and had three children.

Further, she said the man was under medication for a disease that was diagnosed in December.

“He was taking a dose [medication] every night which he was given in the hospital because he claimed he had a gout problem. He had stopped taking alcohol since December because of the medication,” she added.

Karimi said that her lover did not eat anything in the house when he arrived, saying that he already had a meal on his way from work.

The businessman is said to have been visiting the woman often.
