A woman on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, gave birth inside a bus from Nairobi heading to Sori in Migori County.

In a statement from the bus service, ENA Coach disclosed that the bus crew and passengers helped the unidentified woman to safely deliver the baby before continuing with the journey on the evening of Tuesday, July 8, 2025.

“This evening, a healthy baby was safely delivered aboard our Nairobi–Sori bound bus, KDK 036U. We are immensely proud of our staff and fellow passengers who stepped up with care and compassion during this remarkable experience,” the ENA coach stated.

“Welcome to the world, Baby 036U – may your life be filled with health, happiness, and endless adventures! Remarkably, this joyful event comes just under two months after we welcomed Baby 035U on one of our buses. From all of us here, congratulations to the proud mother and her family.”

May 2025 incident

The bizarre incident came after a similar one in which another woman was assisted to deliver a baby while travelling in a Kendu-Bay-bound bus from Nairobi in May 2025.

During the incident, the bus service indicated that the woman was helped by passengers in the bus before being booked into a nearby health facility for aftercare.

“We are delighted to share that one of our esteemed passengers safely delivered a baby this morning while travelling aboard our bus, KDK 035U. The baby was later taken to a nearby hospital for after-birth attention. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our crew and fellow passengers for their incredible support and swift response,” the Ena Coach stated.

Complications of emergency delivery

While many pregnant women travel safely throughout their pregnancies, the unexpected onset of labour while on a journey presents unique challenges and potential risks.

The process of delivering a baby outside a controlled medical environment can be fraught with complications for both mother and child.

One of the primary risks of an unplanned birth during travel is the lack of specialised medical support. Unlike a hospital or birthing centre, a vehicle is not equipped to handle the complexities that can arise during labour and delivery, such as excessive bleeding, a breech presentation, or fetal distress.

Similarly, the limited space and unsanitary conditions increase the risk of infection for both the newborn, whose immune system is still developing, and the mother, whose body is vulnerable post-delivery.
