Ugandan socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has urged women to think carefully before having children, advising them to ensure they can raise them independently should their relationships fail.

In a TikTok video shared on Thursday, September 10, 2026, Zari warned women against having children in the hope that a baby would strengthen their relationship or make their partner more committed.

“You need to be able to take care of your children should things not work out with your person,” she said.

Zari said women should not assume that a man who appears loving and committed will necessarily remain in their lives after they have a child together.

She noted that some men may plead with women to have their children, only to change their attitude later.

‘Be very stingy with your womb’

Zari urged women to be deliberate about having children, using the phrase “be very stingy with your womb” to emphasise her message.

She warned against believing that having a baby would automatically strengthen a relationship.

“I know you’re going to be like, ‘Oh, but I love him. Oh, but if I have a baby with him, he’s probably going to love me more,’” she said.

According to Zari, relationships can change, and women should prepare for the possibility that they could eventually become single mothers.

She also cautioned women against relying entirely on promises made by partners before pregnancy.

Zari acknowledges there are good men

Despite her warning, Zari said she was not suggesting that all men abandon their families.

“There are still good men on this planet. There are still provider fathers on this planet,” she said.

However, she urged women to make sure they can provide for their children regardless of what happens in their relationships.

“Have that baby for yourself,” she advised.

Zari also addressed people who might question her advice because she has five children.

“That was then. That was then,” she said, explaining that her perspective has changed.

She encouraged single mothers to share their experiences with women considering motherhood so they can understand the realities of raising children alone.

Everything is expensive

Zari further pointed to the financial responsibilities that come with pregnancy and raising a child.

“Everything is expensive,” she said, highlighting costs associated with antenatal care, hospitals and raising a child.

She urged women to assess whether they are financially prepared to take care of a child without depending on a partner.

“Make sure you are in a position to take care of this child if things don’t work out with your person,” she said.

Zari concluded by telling women who are not prepared for that possibility to wait before having children.

“If you can’t, stay stingy,” she said.
