Lawyer and former running mate to Jimmy Wanjigi in the last general election, Willis Otieno, has raised serious concerns about how the current regime is handling issues related to children in Kenya.

According to him, recent events indicate a deliberate and sustained pattern that threatens the country’s future.

In a statement shared through his social media platforms on Saturday, June 7, Willis called on Kenyans to recognise the ongoing pattern of neglect and mistreatment directed at children.

He urged citizens not to dismiss the alarming developments, pointing out a series of incidents that, when looked at collectively, form a disturbing trend.

Among the incidents he highlighted was the teargassing of innocent schoolchildren, which sparked public outrage at the time.

He also noted the critical shortage of essential vaccines and immunisation kits in public hospitals, including polio and BCG vaccines, which are vital for early childhood health and development.

“There’s a pattern here, and Kenyans must see it clearly: It started with the teargassing of innocent primary school children. Then came the shortage of life-saving immunisation kits, no polio, and no BCG in public hospitals.” Willis said.

Building on these concerns, Willis pointed out that the same government has moved to dismantle the free education programme.

This, he argued, has had a devastating impact on children from poor families who are now being pushed out of universities due to unaffordable tuition fees, leading them into hopelessness.

“Now, he has dismantled free education, pushing poor children out of universities and into hopelessness.” He continued.

Willis maintains that these events are not isolated or accidental.

He believes they reflect a deliberate policy by the current administration to undermine the future of the country by depriving children of the tools and support they need to survive and grow.

In his view, this amounts to a calculated attack on the next generation of Kenyans.

He further observed that when a government turns against its children, denying them protection, healthcare, and education, it forfeits its moral authority to lead.

To him, these actions demonstrate a deep failure in leadership and governance and should not be allowed to continue to lead.

“This is not accidental. It is a war on the future of Kenya. When a government turns against its children, it has lost its moral right to govern.” He added

Stance on 2027 election

His latest remarks come at a time when he is also pushing for the next general election to be held in 2026 rather than 2027.

Willis Otieno has consistently positioned himself as a vocal critic of the current regime, often speaking out on matters of governance, justice, and the rights of ordinary Kenyans.
