Constitutional lawyer and political analyst Willis Otieno has accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of building its rise to power on a foundation of lies and false promises.

Taking to his official X account in the wee hours of Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Otieno criticised the ruling coalition for what he described as calculated political deception aimed at manipulating voters.

“Kenya Kwanza’s politics are built on deception. They made promises they knew they couldn’t keep, just to win power,” Otieno said.

He argued that key pledges made during the 2022 campaign—including immediate economic revival, reduced cost of living, and mass job creation—have not materialised, and that the government now appears to be backtracking on many of its commitments.

Overpromising

His statement comes hours after former Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Sicily Kariuki accused the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration of reducing political discourse to personal attacks and gender-based mockery, rather than focusing on substantive national issues.

Speaking during a televised interview on the night of Monday, July 28, 2025, Kariuki accused President William Ruto’s regime of overpromising, knowing very well that the commitments they were making during the campaign period were not going to be fulfilled.

“Political bad manners of a regime that overpromises, knowing very well that the commitments they are making during the campaign period are not going to be fulfilled—that’s what we see,” Kariuki said.

Ichung’wah called out

She also came out strongly against National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, condemning his recent remarks targeting Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, the wife of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Referring directly to Ichung’wah’s jibe at Pastor Dorcas, who was mocked for frequently accompanying her husband and speaking before him at events, Kariuki criticised the majority leader for crossing ethical lines.

“When you draw a family woman, a preacher of the gospel, and bring her into the kind of bad manners that we heard Kimani Ichung’wah voice, it means you’ve brought down politics from substantive issues to social bad manners—attacking people on account of gender,” she added.
