Wildlife Service excludes Lake Nakuru from free national park entry offer

The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has provided an update on the free entry to national parks, reserves, and sanctuaries that was earlier communicated in a public notice on September 23, 2025.

KWS, in a statement on Friday, September 26, 2025, has clarified that there will be no free entry to Lake Nakuru National Park on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

“Nakuru County, Friday 26th September 2025 – Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) wishes to provide an update on the free entry to National Park, Reserves and Sanctuaries earlier communicated through the Public Notice dated 23rd September 2025. The public is hereby notified that there shall be no free entry to Lake Nakuru National Park, tomorrow, Saturday, 27th September 2025,” the KWS statement read in part.

The agency noted that access to the park will only be available to customers with prepaid eCitizen tickets, who are advised to enter through Nderit Gate between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm.

It added that the Main Gate at the flamingo area and the Lanet Gate will remain closed for the day.

“However, customers with prepaid eCitizen tickets are advised to access Lake Nakuru National Park through Nderit Gate from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm tomorrow Saturday, 27th September 2025. Further the public is notified that both Lake Nakuru Main Gate (at flamingo area) and Lanet Gate shall remain closed tomorrow.”

The service further revealed that all other national parks, reserves, and sanctuaries managed by KWS across the country will remain open and accessible to Kenyan citizens under the free entry initiative scheduled for Saturday.

It urged the public to observe park rules and regulations during their visits to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

“The public is further advised that all other KWS managed National Parks, Reserves, and Sanctuaries across the country shall remain open and accessible tomorrow Saturday 27th September 2025, under the free entry initiative for Kenyan citizens,” KWS added.

The agency also emphasised that these measures are part of ongoing efforts to manage visitor flow and protect the parks’ delicate ecosystems.

It also reminded the public that prepaid eCitizen tickets remain a valid entry option and should be used where applicable to facilitate access to parks with limited entry.

“The public is urged to observe Park Rules and Regulations during their visits.”
