The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has restored the eCitizen platform, which had left many Kenyans seeking to access government services stranded.
In a statement, KRA noted that its team had managed to restore the platform, which allows Kenyans to pay for government services using 222222.
“The eCitizen Payment Service has been restored. We thank you for your patience,” the taxman announced.
Earlier, KRA had confirmed the unavailability of eCitizen, which had made it difficult for Kenyans to access government services through the online service.
In a statement, KRA expressed its regrets for the inconveniences following the unavailability of the online payment platform.
Following the disruption, KRA assured the citizens that it was working to restore the platform.
The taxman thus advised Kenyans and other stakeholders to use alternative means, including their accredited bank accounts, to pay for government services.
“We are currently experiencing technical difficulties with eCitizen Payment Services (222222). To ensure your payments are processed without delay, please use bank payment options or PDQs,” the statement read in part.
“Our technical team is actively working to resolve the issue and restore services as soon as possible,” KRA added.

Kenyans stranded
Kenyans online shared their frustrations following the unavailability of the critical system. Tourists were among those who were affected by leaving them stranded.
Following the directive requiring all government services to be paid through the eCitizen platform, including park entry fees, the platform failed to process transactions.
Visitors were forced to wait for hours at the main gate as the eCitizen platform crashed, with many taking to social media to complain about the delays.
The situation led to long queues of tourist vehicles and frustration among visitors who were unable to gain access to the park.
