National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has hit back at Rigathi Gachagua and his entourage of opposition politicians following their tour of the larger western region on Friday, July 4, 2025.

Speaking during an empowerment forum in Jomvu, Mombasa County, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, Wetang’ula specifically dismissed Gachagua’s assertions that the former DP has been at the forefront of advancing the interests of the Luhya nation.

“We have leaders who were in power yesterday and have now forgotten what they used to say,

“Last year, we were in Bungoma, and our brother of shares (Gachagua). I was telling Ruto what he had given us a region and asked him to add us some more. But he (Gachagua) adamantly interjected, stating that we had no shares in the government and what we had was enough.

Yesterday I saw him there, and he seemed to have forgotten what he used to say. stating that he is the one who has been advocating for development for the people of the region to get additional resources. He is the one who claimed he had placed snares at the state house to catch Raila, but it so happened they trapped himself,” he added.

The speaker urged the people to stand behind the incumbent president and support him for a second term to finish his tenure.

Support for Ruto

“Mzee Moi was elected and served for 24 years. Kibaki followed and also served for ten years, the same as Uhuru Kenyatta. So let us also allow Ruto his time to serve for ten years,” he implored.

He assured them that by joining them, they are aligning with the aspirations of the majority across Kenya who have taken a stand for the ruling faction.

“We have been in Taveta, Busia, and Kakamega, and across the country, Kenyans have united and refused tribal leaders. Those who think that if it is not them in rulership, then there will be no country. We tell them they are mistaken,” he concluded.

Earlier, Wetang’ula had responded to accusations by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka that he was behind the goon attack that targeted the opposition entourage in Bungoma.

In a statement on Friday, July 4, 2025, Wetang’ula said that he was in Mombasa and had nothing to do with the violence, urging Kalonzo to direct his misplaced anger elsewhere.

“Kalonzo Musyoka, my brother, as you have correctly addressed me, stop your misplaced anger and transferred malice. I am in Mombasa. Keep out of your angry politics. In case your memory fails you, I was last a constituency MP in 2013,
