Lawyer Ahmednassir Abdulahi has called out the government over the deportation of Turkish national Harun Aydin.

Speaking on Monday, August 9, Ahmednassir said that, by deporting the Turk, the government was using the criminal justice system to frustrate Deputy President William Ruto.

“A government that uses the criminal justice system for political ends is terrible for this country. When you arrest someone for terrorism-related crimes and fail to pursue the entire process through the courts it shows how shameless you are,” Ahmednassir said.

According to sources within the National Police Service, Harun Aydin was deported on Monday morning after the government made the decision following consultations with the Turkish embassy.

Authorities say Aydin was bundled onto a Turkish airline at around 5 am and landed in Istanbul, Turkey where he was picked by local security agents for further questioning.

However, lawyer Ahmednassir who is representing the Turkish national said he will challenge the decision by the Kenyan government to deport Harun.

“As his lawyers, we will challenge the decision to deport him because deportation is done following certain procedures in the law and you cannot deport someone just because he is a friend of the Deputy President,” Ahmednassir claimed.

The lawyer was speaking at Kahawa Law Courts where his client was to be arraigned.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi while addressing the media said the Turkish national was secretly deported this morning.

“No one was allowed to see him after his arrest on Saturday morning. Not even his lawyer. The government did not have any reason to charge him, that is why they deported him,” Sudi said.
