Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has urged leaders and members of the public to embrace dialogue as the only solution to the challenges in the country.

Speaking during a working tour of Kitui East on Friday, July 18, 2025, Wandayi stated that dialogue had achieved a host of remarkable improvements in the country and should not be dismissed.

“Any development-conscious nation must have peace and unity among its population. I have said that it is not wrong for people to come together and dialogue. No conflict can ever be resolved without dialogue,” Wandayi said.

Results of dialogue

“When the country was experiencing political upheavals in 2023, President William Ruto and the Azimio la Umoja leadership engaged in dialogue through the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) with five representatives each from Kenya Kwanza and Azimio coalition,” he narrated.

“If there is any achievement realized from NADCO, then it is the IEBC. Without NADCO, we would not be having a fully constituted IEBC; that means dialogue has positive results,” Wandayi implored.

“Citizens and leaders should not be opposed to dialogue. I can say with confidence that the IEBC, as currently constituted, is a product of Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, whom I have a lot of respect for.”

Kalonzo joining broad-based?

He equally exuded confidence in the possibility of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka joining forces with the broad-based government.

“I am confident that in the future, President William Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Kalonzo Musyoka will be able to work together. Politics of ethnicity, malice, incitement, and lawlessness have no place in today’s society,” Wandayi said.

“I am sure that someone of the stature of Kalonzo Musyoka cannot associate himself with such a kind of politics.”

Kalonzo broke ranks with Raila after the ODM leader met with Ruto to form a political pact, which mostly included ODM leaders in Ruto’s administration.

The fallout quickly spread, effectively alienating Raila with the former Azimio la Umoja coalition parties of Jubilee, DAP-K, Wiper, and others. The fallout equally led to Raila losing his 2022 presidential running mate and PLP Party leader, Martha Karua, to the United Opposition.
