Wamuchomba decries security withdrawal after appearing for DCI summons

Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has appeared at Kiambu Police Station, days after she announced that she had been summoned by the the Kiambu County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO).
Addressing journalists outside the station on Monday, April 7, 2025, Wamuchomba raised alarming concerns about her personal safety, accusing the Kenya Kwanza administration of endangering her life by removing her security personnel.
“The Kenya Kwanza government has no respect for women. If it respected women, the government should provide me with ten bodyguards. I previously had one bodyguard but they took him away. I don’t have a bodyguard now as they took him away,” Wamuchomba stated.
The vocal legislator drew parallels between her situation and that of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, criticizing the government’s treatment of political leaders.
“Just as they took away Gachagua’s bodyguards, that’s exactly how they took away my bodyguard. They oppress me and then start claiming we’re fighting politically. My life is in danger, and the lives of people who work with me,” she continued.
Wamuchomba refuted suggestions that her constituents were hostile to the government during Ruto’s recent tour of Mt Kenya, questioning why she was being targeted.
“The President came to Githunguri and no one mocked him, no one shouted at him. Why are they oppressing us? Why are they attacking us?” she questioned.

Wamuchomba further remarked on the failure of some politicians to defend themselves, suggesting that if they were criticized or heckled, they should organize and defend themselves at the grassroots level.
“If these politicians were heckled, they should organize themselves at the grassroots. Even if they were elected at the grassroots, they should go to the ground and defend themselves,” she added.
The MP emphasized the urgency of her call for protection, stressing her vulnerability as a female leader in Kiambu County.
“I need the government of Kenya to protect me. My life is in danger. I need to be protected as a woman leader in Kiambu County. And I demand to be protected because I have the privilege given to me by the constitution of Kenya. I am demanding four security bodyguards to guard me because I deserve it,” she declared.
Unfulfilled promises
Her appearance today at the Kiambu Police station follows her public statement on her X account on April 5, 2025, where she linked reports of her summon to the discontent of her constituents in Githunguri with the promises made by the government.
“The CCIO Kiambu has, through a telephone call, summoned me because the great people of Githunguri refused to be lured to fake promises and projects that never materialised. Arrests you can do, but that will not change the facts! No more lies! You promised, deliver!” Wamuchomba wrote.
