Roots Party 2022 presidential running mate Justina Wamae has urged Kenyans to demand accountability from their elected and appointed officials.
In a statement shared via her X account on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, Wamae criticized the Kenyan voters’ tendency to scrutinize new political candidates while letting sitting politicians off the hook.
“Enyewe wakenya nyinyi huwa na jokes. Mtu mwenye hajawahi kalia kiti meaning (president, dp, prime cs, cs, ps, governor, dep governor, cec, chief officer, mca, senator, women rep and mna etc) akiomba kura, some of you huuliza what have you done? What do you mean what have done? With what money nganuthia?” Wamae questioned.
She emphasized that the focus should shift from questioning newbies to holding current officeholders accountable for their actions and use of public funds.
“What have you done, should be asked of your elected and appointed politicians who use your taxes to fund public projects. Are we together?” Wamae added.
Justina Wamae, Roots Party
Justina Wamae was the running mate of George Wajackoyah in the Roots Party in the 2022 presidential elections.
While most parties were talking about jobs and infrastructure, these two were planning to legalize marijuana, start snake farms, and pay off Kenya’s national debt through non-traditional means.
Wamae was relatively new to national politics but she showcased her ability to engage in public debates and sell the party’s unconventional vision with a straight face.
The Roots Party’s campaign, while attracting attention from the youth, faced criticism and scepticism due to some of its policies.
