President Uhuru Kenyatta has led other leaders in mourning the passing on of Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bob Collymore, describing him as a “distinguished corporate leader whose contribution to our national wellbeing will be missed.”

The President said Collymore was an accomplished corporate leader who steered Safaricom to a position of great admiration as East Africa’s most profitable company.

In December 2018, the President appointed him as a member of the Kenya Vision 2030 Delivery Board.

“As we mourn and pay homage to this visionary and exceptional leader, let us also remember to celebrate his life and achievements. Although Bob Collymore has left us, his inspirational life will remain a great legacy, not just to Kenyans, but also to the whole world,” the President pointed out.

In his part, the Deputy President William Ruto mourned him as “a distinguished corporate titan, whose shrewd leadership at the helm of Safaricom was commendable.”

“He steered the company to new heights and contributed immensely to the evolution of Kenya’s corporate scene. Collymore was exemplary, brilliant and courageous, especially in the manner he battled cancer. Condolences to his family, colleagues and friends. Rest in peace.”

Opposition leader Raila Odinga said “Bob served our country with dedication and sustained us as a communication hub in Africa.”

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said the late Collymore was “a wonderful friend, brilliant strategist and a fighter.”

Collymore died early Monday at his home in Nairobi after a long battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Collymore, 61, joined Safaricom in 2010 as CEO.
