Uhuru attends Jubilee meeting days after party endorsed Matiang’i for president
Jubilee Party leader and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Friday, November 7, 2025, attended the party’s meeting at Thika Greens Hotel in Murang’a County ahead of a major voter registration drive.
The former Head of State was accompanied by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, and several regional party coordinators.
The high-level meeting marked the beginning of what insiders described as a renewed effort to rebuild the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Uhuru calls for unity
Addressing party delegates, Uhuru urged Mt Kenya leaders to put aside their political differences and embrace unity, saying that division had cost the region its influence in national politics.

“When a man opens his shop or garden, doesn’t he leave that to his children? And there is one job I had not finished. My work was to try and unite the country, doing away with politics of insults,” Uhuru said.
He added that his efforts to promote peace and cohesion had begun long before he left office, referencing his famous handshake with opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2018.
“I am a man who loves speaking the truth, too. I was there once upon a time. That is why I invited Raila so that we could unite despite competing with him,” he said.
Uhuru reflects on 2022
In a rare reflection on the 2022 General Election, Uhuru reminded the gathering that he had tried to warn the Mt Kenya region about supporting President William Ruto’s political path.

“You know, in 2022, I tried to talk to you. I tried to show you my ways. I enticed you, but in a way, you didn’t listen to me.
“But I don’t pay attention to the past. We don’t keep on looking behind,” he said.
Uhuru said he had chosen to begin his unification efforts in Mt Kenya because he believes the region plays a central role in determining the country’s future.
“Let us now come and unite all together. There is a reason I want to begin here at home, in Mt Kenya. Let us not be cheated that a man can live on an island,” he stated, urging leaders to work together to restore Jubilee’s position as a major political force.
Jubilee eyes comeback
The Murang’a meeting was also used to outline plans for an aggressive voter registration and membership recruitment exercise across the Mt Kenya region and other Jubilee strongholds.
Party officials said the exercise will be aimed at mobilising grassroots support and rebuilding the party’s base ahead of 2027.
