A 48-year-old woman suspected to be a drug trafficker was on Wednesday afternoon rushed to hospital after she swallowed four sachets of heroin.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based in Voi nabbed Pauline Mugure with sachets believed to be heroin but she swallowed them in haste to conceal evidence.
” A suspected drug peddler was this afternoon rushed to hospital, after she swallowed four sachets suspected to contain heroin, to avoid arrest.
“In the 1 pm incident that also left detectives bemused, 48-year-old Pauline Mugure swallowed the sachets in haste, after detectives based in Voi arrested her on suspicion of drug trafficking,” read a statement on DCI Twitter page.
Ms Mugure was hurried to Moi County Referral hospitality in Voi for a medical examination that will help with the investigations.
Detectives further raided her residence in Maweni Estate for a thorough search and discovered more sachets containing the substance.
Heroin has been a street drug in Mombasa for over 25 years but a multi-agency team consisting of police and detectives have been conducting search operations in the region to weed out peddlers.
