Super Metro shares emotional post amid suspension crisis

Super Metro Sacco has shared an emotional morning motivation message as it continues to navigate its recent suspension crisis.
The public transport company posted a quote on X on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, urging people to stay strong during difficult times. The quote emphasized the importance of faith during life’s storms, reflecting the company’s current challenges.
“We all face storms in life. Some are more difficult than others, but we all go through trials and tribulations. That’s why we have the gift of faith,” the quote read.

This comes after the Transport Licensing Appeal Board temporarily lifted the suspension imposed by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). In an order issued on Monday, March 24, 2025, Board Chairman Adrian Kamotho granted the Sacco permission to resume operations immediately. He confirmed that the interim order halts the enforcement of NTSA’s suspension and directed that the ruling be served to the Inspector General of Police for immediate enforcement.
NTSA suspended Super Metro’s operations on March 18, 2025, citing the need for compliance with road safety regulations. The authority required the Sacco to present 294 vehicles for inspection and obtain compliance reports. Additionally, 42 out of the 109 flagged drivers were required to undergo a retest after 64 failed an earlier test on March 10, 2025, leading to the withdrawal of their licenses.
An analysis of Super Metro’s fleet revealed several compliance issues. Out of 523 buses inspected, 15 had expired inspection certificates, eight lacked valid Road Service Licenses (RSL), five had no speed limiter certificates, and 88 vehicles were not transmitting speed data.
Furthermore, 171 had no speed limiter records, seven were missing vendor details, and 109 exceeded the 80Kph speed limit. NTSA also raised concerns about driver qualifications, stating that some did not meet required standards, posing a road safety risk.
The lifting of the suspension has brought relief to Super Metro, one of the most popular public transport companies in Nairobi.
Passenger dies
The matatu sacco also recently found itself at the centre of controversy following a tragic incident where a passenger lost their life after a fare dispute.
In their statement issued on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, Super Metro conveyed regret and sorrow over the unfortunate event. The company extended heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and reassured the public of its commitment to passenger safety. As an immediate response, the sacco suspended the crew members involved while investigations continued.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving one of the buses operating under our company’s name. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” Super Metro stated.
“While the matter is under investigation, we want to assure everyone that we take safety very seriously. We do not condone reckless behaviour, and as a precautionary measure, the crew involved in this incident has been suspended pending further investigation. We will fully cooperate with authorities to ensure justice is served.”
The company acknowledged the public’s outrage, emphasizing that it upholds the sanctity of human life above all else.
“We understand that the public is angry, and rightfully so. No one should lose their life in such a senseless manner. At Super Metro, we hold the sanctity of human life as a core value guiding our actions and decisions,” the statement read.
