Gen Z Baddie calls out Abel Mutua over his views on Kenya’s Constitution

Gen Z Baddie has criticised filmmaker Abel Mutua over his views on Kenya’s Constitution, questioning his remarks about setting the Constitution aside and saying that the fact that it is not working as expected does not mean it should not work.
Gen Z Baddie said she had come across another video in which Mutua was discussing the Constitution. She also referred to his recent remarks on Obinna’s platform, where he spoke about setting the Constitution aside for five minutes.
“I have just come across another video of Abel Mutua still insisting on how our constitution does not protect us. And in this video, he has called the constitution a …..Juzi pia alikua kwa Obinna akisema hiyo ikiwekwa kando 5 minutes, hii nchi inaweza enda mbele sana,” Gen Z Baddie said on Friday, September 25, 2026.
She said Mutua’s comments had made her question the direction of his message. Gen Z Baddie said she felt he was becoming more deliberate in speaking against democracy and the rule of law, while also pointing to the role of leaders in upholding the Constitution.
“I feel like he is now strategic to preach anti democracy and anti-rule of law. It is just that we have never had leaders who can uphold the Constitution,” Gen Z Baddie said.
Debate over the Constitution
Gen Z Baddie said she did not agree with the idea that problems with how the Constitution works should be a reason to put it aside. She argued that the failure to properly uphold the document should not be taken to mean that it should be abandoned.
“The fact that it is not working does not mean it should not work,” Gen Z Baddie said.
Mutua, while in an interview with Oga Obinna in September, referred to countries where leaders had taken a different approach to their constitutions. He gave the example of El Salvador and described the situation.
“I know a couple of people waliweka constitutions kando for 5 minutes…the guy from El Salvador…huyo jamaa aliingia akaambia watu wake let us put down this constitution for 5 minutes, I put this house in order, hapa hatuwezi fanya hivyo,” Abel Mutua said.
