Sudi surprises university student with scholarship after being moved by father’s struggles
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has issued an update confirming that he will sponsor 19-year-old Habiba Boru Jattani from Karatina, Mathira Constituency, to pursue her university studies in Nairobi.
Sudi shared the news on Friday, September 12, 2025, just days after attending the Mathira Bottom-Up Empowerment Day, where he met the girl and learnt of her struggles.

In a post on his official X account, he explained that Habiba’s story struck a deep chord with him, as she has been determined to pursue her dreams despite difficult financial challenges.
“I’m happy to share the inspiring story of Habiba Boru Jattani, a 19-year-old from Karatina, Mathira Constituency, whom I met at the Mathira Bottom-Up Empowerment Day. Habiba’s determination to pursue her dreams despite financial challenges touched my heart.
Her father works as a cowherder during the day and takes up duties as a night guard, barely making enough to provide for his family while striving to support her education.
The MP noted that he has taken up the responsibility of fully sponsoring her studies at KCA University in Nairobi, where she will be enrolling for a degree in business information technology.
“Her father works tirelessly as a cow herder during the day and a night guard at night, struggling to make ends meet. I’m delighted to announce that I’ve sponsored Habiba to join KCA University in Nairobi to study business information technology,” he added.
Sudi added that stories such as Habiba’s are a reminder of the importance of empowerment programmes that provide opportunities for young people from underprivileged backgrounds.
He stressed that education remains one of the most powerful tools to transform lives, families, and communities, and pledged to continue using his platform to uplift deserving students across the country.
“I wish her all the best in her studies.He said he was delighted to offer the scholarship, emphasising that he wishes her the very best as she embarks on this new academic journey,” the MP said.
Sudi later shared photos of Boru posing beside a KCA University bus, beaming with a wide smile as she celebrated the life-changing opportunity.
In other images, she was seen standing in front of the university banner, seemingly within an administration office, her joy evident as she continued to pose with a radiant smile.
