A sombre mood engulfed Nyabigena village in South Mugirango constituency in Kisii County during the burial of two teachers who were burnt last month at their Bomesichi home in Sameta sub-county by suspected arsonists.

Moruri Mogoa, 60, was a retired teacher while his wife, Florence Moraa 52, was the headteacher of Gekongo primary school in Semeta Sub County before she met her death.

Speaking at the funeral on Friday, Lawmakers- Silvanus Osoro ( South Mugirango), Ezekiel Machogu ( Nyaribari Masaba) Simba Arati ( Dagoretti North) and former area Members of Parliament; Manson Oyongo and Omingo Magara accused the police of dragging their feet in arresting culprits.

The leaders said they will raise the matter with the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) George Kinoti to intervene if security agents fail to take action.

“Itumbe police station is about 100 metres from the couples’ house. I wonder why police could not respond to the distress call and save their lives” Machogu told mourners.

Condemning the incident, Osoro said leaders will fight until the family gets justice, stressing it was wrong for people with ill motives to kill parents and leave children suffering.

“ I am going to raise the matter at the National Assembly. I will not rest until the matter is addressed amicably” the Mp stated during an emotional send-off.

Oyongo, the Kenya National Congress Party leader petitioned Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’I to intervene, saying those involved in the execution of the teachers are known.

He said there is no way police can pretend they do not know those involved in the heinous crime and they should act to bring the perpetrators to book.

Magara accused Itumbe Officer Commanding Station ( OCS) of failing to discharge his duties and called on the government to transfer him.

“ It is unbelievable that we are burying a couple while culprits are yet to be arrested” Magara, who is Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) leader said.

Autopsy Report by Chief Government Pathologist, Johnson Oduor, showed the couple was alive before the fire broke out and they could have been assaulted before their house was set ablaze.

The pathologist who conducted the post mortem at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Morgue said the bodies had severe burns and there was soot in the oesophagus, airwaves and tissues.

He said samples were taken for toxicological analysis to find out whether the couple had chemicals in their bodies which made them not know there was fire.

Mogoa’s son, Robinson Nyabuto said his father had a blood clot on his back and a fracture which could have been caused by a blunt object and implored investigators to find out who hit him.
