Faithfuls of Boigesa Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) church in Bobasi Constituency, Kisii County were shocked on Saturday morning when they went to the church for a service, only to find it broken into and equipment stolen.

Tom Mosoba, a church elder, said thieves broke into the church on Wednesday night, cooked bananas, ate and stole utensils, a bag ful of maize, two speakers, a microphone and a guitar.

Mosoba told K24 Digital that the thieves pushed one of them through a gap between a lintel and a roof to access the room as others used the hack saw to break the main door.

Area Chief Henry Mirera said one suspect, who hails from Kenyenya sub-county had been arrested and detained at Itumbe Police Station for interrogation.

“The suspect was nabbed at the scene and has been handed over to criminal investigation officers to probe him,” Mirera said on phone.

He added: “Churches have no guards. So the elders would be ferrying the equipment during church service days and return them to their homes.”

Mirera also urged residents to be vigilant and report strangers to clan elders to be interrogated.
