Shock as 31 exam candidates reported pregnant in Khwisero
Khwisero Sub-county in Kakamega County has left many shocked after it emerged that 31 candidates are sitting their national examinations while pregnant.
The revelation was made by Khwisero Sub-county Commissioner Janet Khatambi, who raised alarm over the growing trend of teenage pregnancies among schoolgirls in the area.

Speaking during a public baraza, Khatambi said she had received a list containing the names of 31 expectant candidates, warning that the situation could affect their performance in the ongoing national exams, KCSE, KPSEA, and KJSEA.
“I have been given a list of 31 pregnant candidates who require special attention during exams. I’ve even had to secure a standby vehicle to rush any candidate in labour to the hospital,” Khatambi said.
Hunt for predators
Khatambi revealed that her office has launched a manhunt for the suspects responsible for impregnating the schoolgirls. She vowed that those found culpable would face the full force of the law.
“We are looking for the sex predators who took advantage of these girls. They will serve as an example to others,” she warned.

She expressed concern that such cases frustrate parents’ efforts to educate their children. “Parents struggle to pay school fees for their children, and it’s heartbreaking to see such incidents happening to young girls,” she added.
Leaders condemn acts
Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka also condemned the rising cases of teenage pregnancies in the area, saying they threaten to derail education efforts.
Aseka noted that while he has been offering scholarships and bursaries to support learners, such cases of defilement and early pregnancy undermine his initiatives.
“We have men preying on schoolgirls and defiling minors in the villages. Our security officers must deal with them firmly and decisively,” Aseka said, warning that he will not tolerate such acts in his constituency.
