Murang’a County Senator Joe Nyutu has shared a heartwarming account of how a simple life in rented village rooms during his early teaching days unexpectedly led him to meet the love of his life.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Thursday, November 6, 2025, the senator reflected on how, during his time as a teacher, he was posted to a rural school where housing conditions were modest and privacy was almost non-existent.

The rooms, he said, were closely built next to one another, and conversations could easily be heard between neighbours.

“Where I was posted to work at first was in a rural area, and I was living in one of those small rooms we used to rent in the village. The rooms were not built in a way that offered much privacy. You could easily talk to someone in the next room without even leaving yours,” Nyutu said.

He explained that at the time, his now-wife, who was also a teacher, was posted to a nearby school and coincidentally rented a room that shared a wall with his.

The two would often talk through the thin partition separating their rooms, exchanging light conversations that gradually grew into friendship.

Over time, their connection deepened, and without even realising it, they found themselves spending more time together until he eventually moved in with her.

“My wife, who was also a teacher like me, happened to be transferred to a nearby school. Coincidentally, she rented the room right next to mine. We started talking from time to time, her from her side and me from mine, and that is how we got to know each other,” he added.

He revealed that it was during this period of companionship that his wife became pregnant with their first child, a daughter, marking the beginning of their lifelong bond.

The senator said that after learning of the pregnancy, they both decided to visit their parents to formally declare their intentions and eventually got married, sealing their union.

“With time, we became close, and before I even realised it, I had moved from my place and started staying with her in her room. It just happened naturally. During that period, she became pregnant with our first child, a girl. We later decided that it was only right to visit our parents and let them know that we had fallen in love and wanted to be together officially. We eventually got married, and the rest became history,” Nyutu added.

The Murang’a senator also shared that their marriage has since been blessed with three children, one girl and two boys, whom he described as the greatest gifts of his life.

He also humorously noted that while he is uncertain whether they will have more children, he views every child as a blessing and believes that the decision is ultimately in God’s hands.

He added that his youngest son often refers to himself as the last-born, something he jokingly dismisses by telling him that only parents can determine when the family is complete.

“Now we have three children, one girl and two boys. I am not sure if we will have more, but I always say a child is a blessing. If another one comes, it will be a blessing. Sometimes my last-born says he is the last child, and I always tell him to stop planning my family for me. I am the one who will decide if he will remain the last-born,” Nyutu shared.
