Senator Methu blames state for Gachagua’s convoy attack along Mombasa Road

Nyandarua Senator Methu Muhia has blamed the state for the attack on the convoy of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua along Mombasa Road.

Addressing members of the public at the Airtel area near Ole Sereni, Methu took issue with President William Ruto, noting that they would organize public rallies whether he liked it or not.

“Wewe Kasongo, whether you like it or not, we shall hold meetings and rallies in Nairobi,” Methu said.

Don’t test us

His sentiments were echoed by Manyata MP Gitonga Mukunji, who stated that the president should not test their patience.

“We are telling you, Ruto, don’t test us, usitujaribu,” Mukunji said.

Gachagua’s convoy ran into headwinds after a group of goons pelted them with stones along Mombasa Road, forcing him to retreat from the sunroof of his car for safety.

Received at JKIA

After being received by hundreds of supporters at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Gachagua was attacked at the Airport North Road and City Kabanas.

Several journalists covering the live event were also injured in the confrontation, which saw their cars and equipment vandalized.

The DCP leader cut short his tour of the US to focus on the campaigns ahead of the by-elections slated for November 27, 2025.

Following the arrival of Gachagua and his convoy snaking its way to the city, users of Mombasa Road redirected their routes to pass through the Expressway.

Police officers were seen attempting to manage the traffic along the Expressway following the procession of Gachagua’s supporters.

Gachagua departed Kenya for the United States on July 9, 2025, to embark on a two-month diaspora engagement tour. He arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on July 10, where he kicked off his trip, with his initial itinerary including engagements in the cities of Seattle, Dallas, Boston, and Baltimore.

During his visit, Gachagua engaged with the Kenyan diaspora, held town hall meetings, and attended social gatherings. However, his trip was cut short unexpectedly. He ended his tour to return to Kenya to lead his party, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), in preparing for the upcoming by-elections. Gachagua apologized to his supporters in the US, stating that the remaining engagements would be rescheduled for early next year.
