Saturday weather update: Kenya Met warns of rainfall, strong winds

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a daily forecast indicating that most parts of the country will experience rainfall and thunderstorms through Saturday, November 1, 2025.

In its daily forecast, released on Friday, October 31, 2025, the department noted that rainfall is expected in most regions, accompanied by strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (about 12.5 metres per second) over parts of north-western Kenya.

“Rainfall is expected over several parts of the country, and residents are advised to take necessary precautions,” stated the department.

Western regions alert

The highlands west of the Rift Valley, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kericho, and Nakuru counties, will experience showers and thunderstorms in several places during the night and afternoon.

The department added that some areas may record heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning.

Morning rains will be followed by sunny intervals in most parts.

City outlook

The highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, and Embu, are expected to experience cloudy mornings that will give way to afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

In Nairobi, temperatures are forecasted to range between 16°C and 23°C.

The agency advised city residents to plan their travel schedules accordingly and be cautious of localised flooding.

“Cloudy mornings will dominate before giving way to sunny intervals and afternoon rains,” the statement read.

Northern and coastal conditions

In North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu), light to moderate showers are expected, while North-eastern counties such as Marsabit, Mandera, and Garissa will experience scattered rains and sunny intervals.

The south-eastern lowlands covering Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, and Kajiado will experience light rains in the morning, with sunny breaks during the day and isolated afternoon showers.

Meanwhile, the coastal region, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Lamu, will see mild morning and evening showers, with sunny conditions expected in between.

“The current weather pattern aligns with the short rains season that typically peaks between October and December,” the department added.
