Samatta becomes first Tanzanian to play in EPL

Tanzanians are over the moon after national football team captain Mbwana Samatta sealed a transfer move from KRC Genk to Aston Villa in the English Premier League On Tuesday,21st 2020. 

Samatta was playing in Belgium before his move and wasalso the captain for his team which won the Belgian title last season and where finished as the top scorer in the league.

He represented Tanzania at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and is thereigning holder of the Ebony Shoe – the prize awarded to the best African player in Belgium.

Mbwana Samatta becomes the first player from Tanzania to sign a deal with a team in the English Premeir League.

He joins fellow East African, Kenya’s Victor Wanyama, who also plays for Tottenham Hotspurs. 

The striker began his professional career with Simba SC in his homeland, Tanzania. 

His transfer left East Africans celebrating with many promising to support him all the way as he has a big challenge ahead playing for  Aston Villa, which is currently fighting not to be relegated currently placed 18th on 22 points after 23 matches.
