Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya has launched an attack on the leadership of the National Assembly, accusing Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah of failing in their constitutional duty to provide effective oversight of the Executive.

The legislator took to his official X account while calling out the two leaders on Monday, September 1, 2025, where Salasya said the two leaders have reduced Parliament to a puppet of the Executive.

On his part, the MP alleges the two key leaders in the National Assembly have been compromised through close political alignment with powerful Cabinet members like Health CS Aden Duale.

“Ichung’wah is the most useless Majority Leader to have ever existed in Kenya. He, together with Speaker Wetang’ula, has become an agent of the Executive. Nkt!” Salasya said in a fiery statement.

The outspoken MP questioned how Parliament can hold the Executive accountable when its own top leadership appears to be “dining” with Cabinet Secretaries they are meant to check.

Salasya remarks on Duale’s relationship to Executive

“Now, if they are dining with the Executive, like Aden Duale, who will oversee them?” he posed.

Likewise, the Mumias East Member of Parliament has vowed to move a motion on the floor of the House to discuss the conduct and integrity of the National Assembly’s leadership.

In addition, Salasya stressed that the principle of separation of powers, as enshrined in the Constitution, must be respected to protect the democratic foundation of the country.

“Separation of powers is not a suggestion—it is a constitutional obligation. Parliament must serve the people, not the presidency,” he said.

Meanwhile, the move sets the stage for what could be a heated debate in Parliament, amid growing concerns over weakened legislative independence.

“On the 24th, I will make a motion to discuss the conduct of the leadership of the National Assembly. Separation of powers is an important aspect, according to the constitution,” he added.

MPs ask Duale to resign.

His remarks follow recent remarks from a section of Members of Parliament, as legislators allied to the Kenya Moja coalition have issued a stern ultimatum to Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale: resign or face impeachment.

The MPs accuse Duale of presiding over a collapsing health sector, arguing that Kenyans continue to suffer amid the government’s efforts to streamline the country’s health system.

This comes at the centre of the controversy: mounting claims of fraud within the Social Health Authority (SHA), including payments to ghost facilities and fictitious claims.
