President William Ruto has described the collaboration between his government and ODM party leader Raila Odinga as essential for Kenya’s economic transformation and unity.

Speaking at the funeral of former MP Phoebe Asiyo in Wikondiek, Homa Bay County, Friday, August 8, 2025, Ruto said the broad-based government presents a chance to move beyond divisions of tribe, region, and religion.

“Under this broad-based government, because of the Honourable Raila Odinga working with me, Kenya has a date with destiny,” he said. “Kenya has a historic opportunity to change the place of Kenya and to elevate this country to the next level.”

Focus on inclusive growth

The President emphasised the need to tackle unemployment, poverty, and hunger while expanding wealth and agriculture.

“We want to transform our economy, make it inclusive, deal with the challenge of unemployment, create wealth to get rid of poverty, transform our agriculture so that we can eliminate the shame of hunger,” he stated.

Ruto also reiterated his government’s commitment to the ten-point agenda, promising full implementation.

Support for counties and unity

Highlighting progress in devolution, Ruto said, “We not only have paid all the monies that were due by the end of the last financial year, we are also committed that even without the necessary legislation, on Monday Treasury is going to release the resources for our counties for the month of July.”
