Ruto hosts US Africa Command boss at State House

President William Ruto has hosted the commander of the United States of America Africa Command, Air Force General, at State House, Nairobi, in a bid to address security matters just days before his scheduled first visit to the US under President Donald Trump’s administration.

In a report released on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Ruto hosted the Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM), Air Force General Dagvin R. M. Anderson, following a courtesy call.

“Kenya values its strong and enduring relations with the United States, especially in advancing peace and security in our region. I was pleased to host the Commander of US Africa Command (AFRICOM), Air Force General Dagvin R. M. Anderson, who paid me a courtesy call at State House, Nairobi, on Wednesday,” Ruto said.

On his part, Ruto revealed that the discussion with the Air Force General was centred on consolidating the gains made in advancing peace and security in the region.

Likewise, the head of state further revealed that the visit was part of a broader effort to find innovative ways to address the ever-evolving security challenges in Africa.

“We discussed the need to consolidate the gains made in advancing peace and security in the region while working together to find stronger, more collaborative, and innovative ways to address the ever-evolving security challenges,” Ruto added.

Ruto acknowledged his affirmation and commitment to building successful partnerships that will safeguard peace and stability for the future.

Ruto’s visit to US

Worth noting, the visit comes just a few days before President William Ruto’s scheduled to tour the United States in September for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Notably, the trip will mark Ruto’s first trip to the U.S. under President Donald Trump’s administration. 

The high-level meeting is expected to be a critical test of Kenya’s diplomatic influence in Washington.

Likewise, the UNGA session is scheduled from September 9 to 29, with the high-level General Debate running from September 23 to 27.
