Ruto congratulates Morocco on CHAN 2024 victory

President William Ruto has congratulated Morocco on its well-earned triumph at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), following a thrilling final at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Taking to Twitter shortly after the final, Ruto commended Morocco’s performance and lauded the efforts of all teams, officials, and organisers who contributed to a successful tournament. “Congratulations, Morocco, on winning the CHAN 2024 Championship. This is a well-earned victory,” he tweeted.

The President also reflected on Kenya’s role as co-host, noting that the experience has provided valuable lessons in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027. “We take to heart the lessons of co-hosting this tournament, and we will use them to sharpen our preparation for AFCON 2027,” Ruto stated.

Beyond football, Ruto emphasised the broader significance of CHAN 2024 in promoting Pan-African unity and showcasing the continent’s talent.

“This tournament has affirmed the spirit of Pan-Africanism. It has showcased the unity, resilience, and immense talent of our continent. From North to South, East to West, Africa’s sons and daughters displayed not only footballing brilliance but also the bonds that tie us together as one people,” he noted.

The President joined thousands of Kenyans at Kasarani Stadium to witness the final, which saw Morocco defeat Madagascar 3-2 in a dramatic contest.

Morocco’s victory secured them a record third CHAN title, reinforcing their status as one of Africa’s dominant footballing nations.

Ruto also had the opportunity to present the CHAN 2024 trophy to the Moroccan team during the closing ceremony, a moment that underscored Kenya’s role as co-host and highlighted the country’s growing prominence in continental football.

The CHAN 2024 final, attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, delivered drama, skill, and unforgettable moments, leaving fans in Nairobi and across Africa applauding the beautiful game.
