Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged all public servants to wear the Kenyan jersey in their offices throughout August as a show of support for our national team, the Harambee Stars, during the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, August 3, 2025, Ruku emphasised the significance of Kenya hosting the continental event at Nairobi’s Kasarani Stadium, saying it was a proud moment for the nation.

He described the occasion as a rare opportunity to unite behind the national team and celebrate the spirit of patriotism through sport.

He clarified that while disciplined forces like the police and military are exempt due to uniform regulations, all other civil servants from both county and national governments are encouraged to wear the jersey during working hours in their offices.

CHAN tournament

Ruku’s appeal comes at a time when the Harambee Stars are basking in the spotlight after a promising start in the CHAN tournament, with high hopes that they will advance to the finals.

The match was a tightly contested affair, with Harambee Stars showing composure and discipline throughout.

The lone goal came in the first half from Austin Odhiambo, the creative playmaker from Gor Mahia, who fired home after a slick move in the additional half-time minutes.
