Ruku to opposition: If you’re struggling in Mbeere North, forget about 2027
Public Service, Human Capital Development, and Special Programmes Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has dismissed attempts by the United Opposition to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election, saying their plans are already collapsing at the grassroots.
Speaking in Mbeere North, Embu County, during an inspection tour of a road project on Friday, September 12, 2025, Ruku took direct aim at the opposition and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, questioning their political strength after what he terms as failing to front a parliamentary candidate in the upcoming by-election in the constituency.

“Tuko katika hali ya kutafuta mbunge mwingine katika Mbeere North na tunaona wale ambao walikuwa wanajipiga kifua ati yakwamba wao ndo kingpin wa hii pande ya mlima, tunaona hawajapata candidate wa kuwania kiti cha ubunge,” Ruku said.
“Sasa kama wewe unasema ndo kingpin na hata mtu mmoja wa kuwania kiti kwa hii eneo ambalo unasema ni lako hauna, wewe ni kingpin wa aina gani? Bure kabisa!”
Ruku praises govt projects
The CS, who was picked from his position as the Mbeere North MP by President Ruto to replace his predecessor Justin Muturi, praised ongoing government projects in Mbeere North, citing new roads, electricity connections, and the Kanyambora Irrigation Project as proof of the administration’s commitment to uplifting the region.
He told residents that the government’s performance was the strongest campaign tool ahead of 2027, contrasting it with what he described as opposition chaos and disunity.
“Na tunasema ata wale ambao wanasema ati wanakuja kuvurugana na sisi, tuko tayari, candidate yetu ako ngangari na tunaona ile kazi ambayo serikali inafanya na tunashukuru serikali. Tunashukuru rais kwa kuwakumbuka watu wa Mbeere North kwa miradi mikubwa mikubwa kama hii ya kutengeneza barabara, kuweka lami na stima, na tunajua pia eneo hili kuna mradi mkubwa wa maji ambao tunaita Kanyambora Irrigation Project,” Ruku said.
“Tunawaambia wakiweza watafute candidate wao wakuje waminyane na sisi ili pia tujue wao ni wakali, lakini wameshindwa. Sasa kama mnashindwa mapema hii na 2027 hatujafika, mtatoboa hii safari kweli?”
Ruku warns the opposition
Ruku further warned opposition leaders that unseating President Ruto in 2027 would be an uphill task, given what he described as the President’s unmatched development record across the country.
“Mimi kama waziri nimezunguka hii Kenya yote nikaona yale ambayo rais anafanya, miradi ya barabara, stima na maji na kushughulikia mahitaji tofauti ya watu wa Kenya. Kwa hivo wale ambao mnapinga rais William Ruto nataka kuwaambia ile kibarua mko nayo ni kubwa,” he said.
