The energy regulator has dropped the price of super petrol and diesel in its monthly review, in a move likely to ease the cost of living.

In the latest review, the prices of super petrol and diesel dropped by Sh4.76 and Sh1.08 per litre respectively.

However, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority increased the price of kerosene by Sh0.44 per litre, compared to the previous period.

In Nairobi, motorists will now pay Sh108.5 per litre of petrol and Sh101.96 for diesel.

Following government’s efforts to phase out the use of kerosene for cooking, the product now retails at Sh101.08 per litre in Nairobi, a move meant to deter and curb adulteration of other fuels.

In Kimwarer Uasin Gishu, petrol will be retailing at sh109.87 per litre, diesel Sh103.97 and kerosene at Sh103.10.

The pump prices which are now inclusive of eight per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2018, also reflects the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation, as per Legal Notice No. 109 of July 9, 2019.

EPRA said the price change were on account of average landed cost of imported super petrol decreasing by 7.66 per cent between August and September 2019.

During that period of purchase, the shilling also depreciated by 0.34 per cent from Sh103.44 per dollar to Sh103.79 per dollar in September 2019.

In September, EPRA announced an increase in the cost of super petrol and diesel prices by Sh0.28 per litre and Sh2.44 per litre respectively.
