A section of Siaya MCA asked leaders from the Luo Community to engage in dialogue and reach a consensus on a person who will lead the ODM party and champion the agendas of the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

This comes even as the ODM National Executive Committee has appointed Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga as the interim party leader.

In a press briefing on Friday, October 17, 2025, led by Nominated MCA Cythia Ndar, North Uyoma MCA Washington Booker Bonyo, and North Sakwa Oliver Arika, the Luo Community should not give a chance to persons keen on infiltrating our midst to divide us.

“What Baba would have loved us to do is to remain united. Raila might not have shown us a successor directly, but he has mentored many people, including new generations, so am sure, organically, a leader would emerge,” Ndar said.

May not fit into his boots

She further said that Raila‘s replacement may not fit in his boots but still would lead us as we liberate the country from the oppressions.

“It’s time for us to unite in this difficult time and hold each other as a Luo nation as we move forward to build the project, Kenya,” Ndar added.

On his part, Booker Bonyo said that he always envisaged the life of our people in Kenya and how we would be without Raila Odinga.

“Leaders are chosen by God, and for sure we shall get his choice but we have politicians, including Governor James Orengo, Governor Gladys Wanga, Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang Nyongo, and our members of parliament, so whoever is blessed to take up the mantle, ensure the dreams of Raila is fulfilled especially that of taking Luo nation to the promised land,” he said.

“We have the act. Let our people be calm and peaceful when mourning the departed leader, but the idea of liberating our Luo nation and ensuring we land the promised land must be our goal and dream.”

At the same time, Oburu has promised that he will not let down the spirit of his brother, Raila Odinga.

Speaking in Nyayo Stadium on Friday, October 17, 2025, during the requiem mass of the former premier, he said that he has taken the mantle as an interim ODM leader.
