The business community is mourning the death of Naresh Malde, the founder of Pwani Oil Products Limited, who has passed on.

According to official information seen by K24 Digital on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, the company described him as a visionary leader whose legacy will forever shape the organization’s identity.

“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed founder, Mr. Naresh Malde,” read part of the company’s statement.

“This loss is deeply felt throughout our organization, as Mr. Naresh played an instrumental role in the establishment and growth of Pwani Oil Products.”

 Malde, remembered as a pioneering entrepreneur, founded Pwani Oil Products several decades ago, transforming it from a modest local venture into one of East Africa’s leading manufacturers of edible oils, soaps, and detergents.

Under his leadership, household brands such as Fresh Fri, Salit, and Sawa became staples in millions of homes across the region.

His colleagues described him as a man of integrity, foresight, and deep commitment to both his employees and community.

“His vision, dedication, and leadership have been integral to the success of Pwani Oil Products Limited. His contributions to the success and development of Pwani Oil Products will always be remembered and celebrated,” the company said.

Beyond business, Malde was known for his philanthropy and quiet generosity, supporting education and health initiatives in the Coast region.

His passing marks the end of an era for one of Kenya’s most respected industrialists, whose work helped shape the country’s manufacturing landscape.

 Pwani Oil expressed its solidarity with those closest to him.

“We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his entire family,” the statement read.

“As we mourn the loss of a remarkable leader and mentor, let us also reflect on the enduring legacy Mr. Naresh leaves behind.”

Tributes have continued to pour in from business leaders and former associates who credit Malde for his unwavering belief in Kenyan enterprise and his ability to inspire generations of entrepreneurs.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Pwani Oil wrote.
