A 45-year-old man died instantly after he was knocked down by a police vehicle at a place called Wang’ Neno along Ugunja-Ukwala road last evening.

The man who has been identified as Michael Odhiambo Oduor was walking along the road towards Nzoia trading centre when the Administration Police Landcruiser that was heading towards Ugunja from Ukwala hit and killed him instantly.

According to his cousin George Okech, the police vehicle was chasing a Toyota Probox when it caused the accident.

He said, after Odhiambo was hit, the driver of the Police Landcruiser stopped but when he realized that the man had died, he turned and sped back to Ukwala leaving the body of the deceased at the scene.

Okech stated that it was at that point that they called the police from Siranga patrol base that came to the scene before alerting their counterparts from Ukwala and Ugunja Police stations that came and picked the body and took it to Ukwala sub-county hospital mortuary.

Siaya Police Commander Michael Muchiri confirmed the incident saying the body of the deceased has been moved to the Ukwala morgue. “We have launched investigations into the matter and we have detained the police officers,” said Muchiri
