The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed claims of a goon revolt in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), insisting that the recent incident was linked to a business dispute and not general insecurity.

In a statement on Monday, August 25, 2025, NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga clarified that the incident, which occurred on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Nanak House opposite Sarova Stanley Hotel, involved a targeted attack on four businesses.

Contrary to circulating reports suggesting a wave of violence, the attack was civil in nature and is now part of an ongoing court case.

“Following a careful analysis of the incident, detectives have ascertained that this was a deliberate attack on specific businesses, linked to an internal business dispute. An arrest has already been made, and further arrests are expected,” Nyaga said, adding that the matter is being handled under the law.

The NPS noted that the media narrative suggesting a “worrying state of insecurity” within the CBD was inaccurate.

The authorities emphasised that the attack was isolated and not part of a coordinated effort to target businesses or residents in Nairobi.

CBD remains secure

Police also stressed that Nairobi CBD remains one of the safest areas in the country to conduct business, despite recent incidents.

“The Nairobi Central Business District continues to be a symbol of the capital city, and its security cannot be overemphasised. We have robust systems in place to ensure the safety of residents and business owners,” Nyaga stated.

He further reassured the public that law enforcement remains vigilant, working in close collaboration with the private sector to prevent any criminal activity.

The NPS urged business owners and residents to remain alert and report suspicious activities promptly.

Public advised to report

The police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

“The National Police Service remains committed to serving the people and combating all forms of criminality,” Nyaga said.

This statement comes in the wake of heightened concerns following recent nationwide protests, which had previously disrupted parts of the CBD.

Police emphasised that the attack should not be seen as part of a larger security threat but rather as a consequence of a private dispute now under investigation.
