A senior police officer was on Tuesday evening nabbed by detectives attached to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for demanding a bribe.
Inspect Wilson Kangongo, who is the in-charge Eregi police post, was arrested at Eregi market after he was accused of demanding a Sh500 bribe.
Kangongo demanded the bribe from Jeremiah Gumbi in order to assist him get justice, saying he would use the amount as fare to the Kakamega’s Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).
“The officer was arrested at Eregi market on an allegation that he had demanded Ksh.500/= for fare to Kakamega ODPP”s office to get complaint file of housebreaking and stealing by one Jeremiah Gumbi (complainant),” a report by EACC read in part.
The EACC officials also recovered the Sh500 which he had already received and later reported the matter at Malaika Police Station in Kakamega county.
The officer is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday afternoon, November 4, 2020.
