Police arrest 3, recover stolen goods in Mtwapa raid

Police have arrested three persons of interest and recovered a cache of stolen goods following a successful operation by the Mtwapa Police Station team.
The operation, which was intelligence-led, targeted a suspected criminal network believed to be behind a recent surge in theft cases in Kilifi County.
According to a statement posted by the National Police Service (NPS) through their X account on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, the operation yielded numerous items suspected to have been stolen, including 25 assorted mobile phones, four tablets, 18 gas cylinders, 7 television sets, 10 watches, two grinders, two blenders, and two digital weighing scales.
Police also recovered a baby walker, assorted utensils, clothing, electric cables, and local and foreign currencies in various denominations.

“The suspects are now in custody and will be processed before being arraigned in court,” the statement read. “All the recovered items have been secured at Mtwapa Police Station to aid in investigations.”
Police commended the public for their cooperation, attributing the success of the raid to credible intelligence received from local residents.
“This is the result of timely information shared by members of the public,” the police said.
“We remain committed to ensuring the safety of all Kenyans and will continue to act swiftly on credible intelligence,” they added.

The individuals are currently being held at Mtwapa Police Station as investigators build a case ahead of arraignment. Officers are also working to identify and trace the rightful owners of the recovered goods.
“Let this serve as a warning to criminals,” read another part of the statement. “The long arm of the law will always catch up with you.”
The NPS reiterated its appeal to the public to report suspicious activity and assist law enforcement efforts in curbing crime, especially as stolen property syndicates continue to exploit unsuspecting residents.
