She said teachers never seem to age because they continue to live through their students’ triumphs and successes. Passaris praised teachers and mentors for shaping not only individuals but entire generations, saying their influence goes far beyond the classroom.
“Today, as we celebrate teachers, I’m reminded of my high school days at Star of the Sea Girls Secondary School. Teachers! Have you noticed they never seem to age? Probably because they keep living through us and our triumphs, and that keeps them forever young.”
“Happy World Teachers’ Day to all the teachers & mentors who shaped us and continue to shape generations to come,” Passaris wrote on X on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Why World Teachers’ Day matters
World Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on October 5 to honour teachers around the world for their dedication and contribution to education.

The day was first established in 1994 by UNESCO and focuses on the vital role teachers play in building societies and nurturing the next generation.
This year, celebrations revolve around the theme “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession”, emphasising the transformative power of teamwork in education.

Passaris’ tribute serves as a reminder of the long-lasting influence teachers have on their students — shaping values, discipline, and confidence that carry on into adulthood.
Her reflection shows the personal connection many people still feel to their former teachers, even decades later.
In her message, Passaris noted that teachers stay “forever young” because they continue to relive their students’ achievements. She said their joy comes from seeing their students grow, succeed, and contribute positively to society.
Her post struck a tone of appreciation, honouring those who dedicate their lives to education and mentorship. As the world marks this special day, Passaris’ words echo the importance of celebrating educators, the often-unsung heroes.
