Orphan with no hope! Caleb Amisi recalls educational challenges after emerging as top pupil

Saboti Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has penned down an emotional message describing his educational journey from being a top student in the 2000 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) to now graduating as the top student of his class.

Amisi took to his official X account on Saturday, September 27, 2025, where he described his education journey as one coupled with financial constraints.

Amisi recalled how twenty-five years ago, he emerged as a top pupil in the western region in the 2000 KCPE exams; however, he had no hope for high school, and eventually, Starehe Boys Centre became his last hope.

“25 years ago, an orphaned boy walked through the gates of Starehe Boys Centre and School armed with only a padlock. This was after emerging as the top student in the western region in the 2000 KCPE exams, and with no hope for high school fees, Starehe became the last hope,” Amisi recalled.

The MP who graduated on Saturday, September 27, 2025, from United States International University revealed he graduated as the top student in the Master of Arts in International Relations.

On his part, Amisi described how challenging his chase for a master’s degree has been, being in a political environment coupled with the highly demanding public service work.

“Today, the same boy graduates as top student in the Master of Arts in International Relations from #USIU university, amidst a convoluted political environment coupled with the highly demanding public service work,” Amisi noted.

The legislature took further action with encouraging remarks, stating, “We don’t choose where, when, and whom to be born from, but we definitely have the power to choose our own destiny. I thank the Almighty God for always guiding my life.”

Amisi’s background

Worth noting, Amisi was born and raised in Saboti Constituency, Trans-Nzoia County, where he experienced firsthand the challenges faced by rural communities, including limited access to quality education and economic opportunities.

Amisi began his formal education at Sabatia Primary School, completing his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) in 2000.

His outstanding academic performance earned him admission to Starehe Boys’ Centre, where he studied from 2001 to 2004 and sat for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

After completing high school, Amisi pursued higher education at the University of Nairobi, enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) programme in 2006.

He specialised in areas of commerce and finance, gaining a strong foundation in business management and economic development, and graduated in 2010 with a degree in commerce.

Caleb Amisi’s political career began in 2017, when he contested the Saboti Constituency parliamentary seat under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

At just 29 years old, he went on to win the election, becoming one of the youngest MPs in Kenya and the first in Saboti’s history to ascend to Parliament at such a young age.

During his first term in the 12th Parliament (2017–2022), Amisi served on the Departmental Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, where he contributed to discussions on national security, foreign policy, and defence matters.
