Onyonka: Once out of power, Ruto will be prosecuted

Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka has issued a call to Kenya’s youth, particularly Gen Z, to rise up and help save the country from what he described as a regime of impunity.
Speaking on Saturday, June 7, 2025, during an opposition-led rally in Voi, Taita Taveta County, Onyonka warned that the country is on the brink of collapse unless young people take a stand.
Country in crisis
Onyonka painted a bleak picture of the state of the nation, accusing senior officials in the Kenya Kwanza government of looting public funds meant for essential services.
“Tunaongea juu nchi yetu imefika pabaya. Wanaiba pesa ya madaktari, shule, mashamba, na madini ya Taita Taveta. Wanauza kila kitu!” he said to a charged crowd.
The senator expressed outrage over the alleged exploitation of the region’s natural resources, including minerals in Taita Taveta, and the continued underfunding of key sectors such as healthcare and education.

He warned that Kenya’s future is being mortgaged by greedy politicians who pretend to care for the people while enriching themselves at public expense.
Youth must act
Onyonka directly addressed Gen Z, urging them to reclaim their country by actively participating in political discourse, civic action, and the upcoming 2027 elections.
“This country belongs to you. You must decide to save it or allow it to be taken away by these crooks and thieves stealing your money and resources,” he declared.
He praised the youth-led activism seen in recent years, especially during the Gen Z protests of 2024, saying it showed the potential for Kenya’s young generation to lead a national awakening.
“This is your time. Don’t wait for us old men. If you don’t act, they will finish this country.”
Warning to Ruto
The senator didn’t spare William Ruto, accusing the government of silencing dissent through abductions and killings of young activists.
“I want to tell Ruto this: keep on abducting and killing our children, but once you’re out of power, we will take you to court,” Onyonka warned.
His remarks come amid rising political temperatures and mounting public concern over state repression, mismanagement, and allegations of economic sabotage.
The opposition has promised continued rallies across the country as it mobilizes Kenyans against what they term a regime of betrayal.
