Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu has accused President William Ruto of lying to Kenyans over the state of the several victims of abduction and disappearance cases that rocked the country following the anti-government uprising led by the Gen Zs.

Ruto, on Monday, May 12, 2025, made the bold declaration that all of the victims of abductions had been reunited with their families.

He further made an assurance that the cases of abductions will never occur again under his watch

The senator has however castigated the president for lying over a matter that information in the public domain denotes otherwise.

“The fact that the president lied. He said that every other victim had been returned to their family. Yesterday, there was a report from the Human Rights Group with the names of young people who disappeared and their whereabouts unknown. They have even given out names. It’s a concern that the president can lie in broad daylight over such a particularly sad situation, as we have people who are still missing,” Nyutu lamented in an interview with a local TV station.

Among the cases of unresolved abductions is the case of Brian Odhiambo, a fisherman who was allegedly abducted by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers from the Lake Nakuru National Park on January 18, and whose whereabouts remain unknown since then.

Nyutu further questioned why Ruto never touched on the efforts to reach justice for the victims who suffered untold atrocities at the hands of the perpetrators.

The senator urged that the head of state should also speak on bringing the perpetrators of the abductions and disappearances to book as a measure of accountability.

“President Ruto did not promise that the perpetrators of heinous acts of abductions and killings will be brought to book. He said it will never happen again. He did not promise to bring the perpetrators to book or commit to any investigations being carried out. According to him, the matter had been concluded and victims had gone back to their families,” Nyutu stated.

Meanwhile, Kesses MP Julius Rutto, on his part, praised the president for breaking his silence and coming out to address the matter.

While offering a dissenting opinion, Rutto stated that the topic of abduction ought to be approached with caution as a sensitive topic touching on the lives of individuals.

“The president had already branded the killer. I feel he did well to respond to the matter.” the MP cautioned, adding that “We should not rush into issues to satisfy the political feeling. We are dealing with issues touching on families and emotions of people, and we ought to approach it with caution,” he added.
