Ngogoyo explains tactic Gachagua’s party will use to field strong candidates

Kajiado North Member of Parliament Onesmus Ngogoyo has said that the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, will deploy a new tactic to field strong candidates in the upcoming mini polls and the 2027 general election.

Speaking to K24 TV on Tuesday, August 4, 2025, Ngogoyo explained that the team backing Gachagua would develop an internal consensus-building mechanism to ensure they field strong candidates in all key seats across the country.

Ngogoyo also said that “We will listen to the ground” will be the guiding slogan in the camp of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, even as the 2027 politics heat up.

“The new slogan is that we will listen to the ground,” Ngogoyo said. “We will have an in-house arrangement that will provide us with a candidate across the board, and we will rally behind them.”

Unity in candidate selection

The outspoken MP, who downplayed any fears that the opposition will split when it comes to flagbearer choice, said the coalition was committed to unity and grassroots-driven leadership.

The Kajiado North legislator further noted that dialogue and feedback from the public would be central to all their decisions leading up to the general election, a message widely seen as an attempt to project inclusivity and discipline within the emerging political wing.

Call for regime change

Ngogoyo was blunt in his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration, saying that the first step towards solving pressing national issues was to vote him out of office.

“For us to sort out the issue of SHA, sort out the issue of university funding, the issue of extrajudicial killings, William Ruto must go. That is where we start,” Ngogoyo said.

“William Ruto has no moral authority,” he added, accusing the government of ignoring the plight of ordinary citizens while shifting focus to politics and public relations.

Opposition unity message

Despite rising tensions and individual ambitions within the opposition ranks, Ngogoyo insisted that unity would not be sacrificed.

“We know what the people want. We will listen to them and act accordingly,” he said, underscoring that 2027 would be shaped by public sentiment rather than elite bargains.

Ngogoyo did not name any specific presidential hopeful but signalled that a clear roadmap would be unveiled soon.
