Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has revealed that his journey into politics was not accidental, claiming that he envisioned and documented his ambition to represent Kiharu Constituency long before venturing into public service.

Speaking at the Kiaguthu High School on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, Nyoro revisited a moment from his university life when he authored a book and boldly referred to himself in the author’s biography not just as a student but as a future Kiharu MP.

He claimed that this early self-affirmation played a key role in shaping the trajectory that would eventually lead him to Parliament.

“I wrote a book when I was on campus, and in the section where I was writing about the author, I said I was a student but insisted I was a future Kiharu MP. And now I am standing here as the current Kiharu MP,” he said.

The legislator used the story to illustrate what he described as the power of clearly defining one’s ambitions early in life, telling the gathering that it was important for young people to articulate their goals, however far-fetched they may seem.

“Do you want to become a politician? Do you want to become an entrepreneur, a doctor, an engineer or a professor? Whatever you want, it is important you define that early,” he said.

His message, however, did not shy away from making strong personal assertions about life planning.

He challenged the youth to document their ambitions as a personal guidepost.

“Write it down somewhere because it is your journey, and the one you will walk. And the one you are travelling in your life,” he added.

While the lawmaker emphasised the value of intentional living and self-direction, he also advised that one’s choices should be rooted in skill and passion.

“It is good to choose something you are good at and the one you enjoy,” he said.

Nyoro’s political career

Ndindi Nyoro first entered the national political arena in the 2017 general elections when he vied for the Kiharu parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.

At just 32 years old and coming from humble beginnings, he successfully challenged a crowded field.

His victory in the Jubilee primaries paved the way for his August 8 win in the general election, where he garnered approximately 60,991 votes, defeating his nearest rival, who received around 35,181 votes.

Nyoro’s triumph was widely seen as a remarkable feat, given that Kiharu had long been a powerhouse constituency represented by political heavyweights such as Kenneth Matiba, Gikonyo Kiano, Kembi Gitura and Irungu Kang’ata.
