Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has faulted Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege for betraying former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking to Kameme TV on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Ndegwa regretted what he termed as Sabina Chege’s dishonest political behaviour and her tendency to abandon those who elevate her politically.

Betrayal of Uhuru

According to Njiru, Sabina’s attendance at the joint ODM-UDA Parliamentary Group meeting under the Jubilee Party banner was evidence of her political double-dealing.

“Sabina Chege attended the ODM-UDA PG meeting under the Jubilee Party. Sabina is one of Mt Kenya region leaders who are thankless.

“She was nominated by Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee Party and then turned against him,” Njiru said.

The lawyer recalled how Sabina once led a push to remove Uhuru as Jubilee Party leader.

“She was the one who wanted to oust Uhuru as the party leader so that she could take over the position,” he added.

Public embarrassment

Njiru also highlighted a recent incident where Sabina was reportedly embarrassed at a public function.

“The other day, you saw her being disgraced by President William Ruto’s PA when she was told to turn around,” Njiru said.

He argued that such moments reveal how leaders who betray their political mentors often end up being sidelined by the very camps they seek to please.

Ndegwa Njiru was categorical that Sabina’s actions disqualified her from being considered a serious leader.

“She is one of the leaders we are saying, they aren’t fit in this country,” he said firmly.

His remarks come amid growing political realignments in Mt Kenya as leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

While Sabina Chege has sought to cement her role within the ruling coalition, her critics, including Njiru, accuse her of lacking loyalty and consistency.

Njiru’s attack on Sabina reflects the wider discontent among some Jubilee loyalists who feel abandoned following Uhuru Kenyatta’s retirement.

The lawyer insisted that leaders who benefited from Uhuru’s political goodwill should not undermine him or erase his legacy.

Political observers argue that such public criticisms may deepen rifts within Jubilee’s remnants while also exposing the fragile nature of alliances in the ruling coalition.
