National Cohesion and Integration Commission has summoned Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala to shed light on remarks he allegedly made within Vihiga County ahead of Azimio la Umoja Movement event held at Bukhungu Stadium on December 31, 2021.

The Azimio la Umoja movement rally was convened by Central Organization of Trade Union (Cotu) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli to rally Luhya community to support ODM leader Raila Odinga in his presidential bid ahead of the 2022 general elections.

According to a statement in our possession, Malala is to appear before the commission on Monday, January 10, 2022, at 10:00 am.

“Take notice that you are hereby required to appear before the National and Integration Commission at the offices at Britam Towers 18th floor Upper Hill on 10th January 2022 at 10:00 am so as to assist the Commission with the ongoing investigation,” the letter addressed to Malala an in our possession read in parts.

The utterances that the commission is investigating, as captured in the summoning letter, are;

Mimi nimesikia wewe ukisema, eti wewe hautaenda na munajua huko Kakamega hapo ndio bedroom yangu, sasa nataka kuwaambia hao majamaa kama watachukua permit kwa Musalia Mudavadi wasikuje huko tarehe theathini na moja, niseme nisiseme, nitoboe nisitoboe, sasa Muheshimiwa Musalia wewe ndio utanipatia ruhusa, ukiwapatia kifunguo waingie mimi nitafungua lakini tayari ushasema  wasikuje, sasa I want to officially say hakuna mkutano Bukhungu stadium tarehe thelathini na moja.”

The commission says these words were calculated to be hateful and likely to affect harmonious coexistence between the Luhyas and other communities contrary to Section 13(1) (a) of the National Cohesion and Integrity Act.
