Nairobi Expressway denies claims of road closure ahead of Gachagua’s return

Nairobi Expressway has clarified information circulating in the online space regarding the closure of the Nairobi Expressway road in affiliation with the return of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a press release statement by the Moja Expressway Company on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the company issued a warning on a fake poster circulating across social media suggesting the closure of the Nairobi Expressway leading to the Central Business District.
“Please note that the poster making rounds on social media suggesting the closure of the Nairobi Expressway CBD access is fake,” Moja Company said.
Moja Expressway Company, while dispelling reports circulating online suggesting the closure of the Nairobi Expressway in connection with the return of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has further noted that the company is not authorized to close the Expressway due to political processions.
“MOJA Expressway Company is not affiliated with either, nor does it authorize the closure of the Nairobi Expressway due to political processions,” the company noted.

Likewise, the Moja Expressway, while also clarifying that it is neither affiliated with nor authorizes any road closures linked to political processions or events, has confirmed that the Nairobi Expressway remains a public road and all planned road closure notices are shared only on the official MOJA Expressway Company social media platforms.
“The Nairobi Expressway remains a public road, and all planned road closure notices are shared only on the official MOJA Expressway Company social media platforms with appropriate safety measures put in place to safeguard our motorists,” Moja noted.
On the other hand, the Moja Expressway warned members of the public against spreading misinformation while further directing any inquiries to their official hotline:
“We urge the general public to refrain from circulating false information and reach out to our service hotline 0111039777 for inquiries. Thank you for choosing the Nairobi Expressway,” Moja stated.

Gachagua’s arrival
Notably, the Moja Expressway statement comes amid the highly anticipated arrival of the Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Top officials of the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) have converged at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) ahead of the arrival of their party leader, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Worrying noting, the DCP has confirmed that Gachagua will return to Kenya from the United States on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at noon, and has mobilised its leadership and supporters to welcome him.
