Murkomen warns politicians inciting Kenyans to violence

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning against politicians inciting Kenyans to violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on Sunday. May 18, 2025, after attending a church service at Nuru Africa Inland Church in Kitale, Trans-Nzoia County, Murkomen vowed to deal with leaders inciting Kenyans.
“Fellowshipped at Nuru Africa Inland Church in Kitale , Trans-Nzoia County, where I implored leaders across the country to practise politics within the confines of the law. The security sector, under our watch, will deal firmly with leaders engaging in incitement, without regard to their political stature or affiliation,” Murkomen stated.
Murkomen was joined by Trans Nzoia senator Allan Chesang, Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi, former senators Zipporah Kittony, Michael Mbito and Henry ole Ndiema as well as former Inspector General David Kimaiyo, among other worshippers.
This comes moments after former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua warned that 2027 would be worse than 2007, if President William Ruto tries to rig the elections.
This is the second time Murkomen has issued a warning regarding the same issue.
Speaking in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County on May 17, 2025, Murkomen expressed outrage over what he termed as reckless incitement, referencing Gachagua’s suggestion that the next election could be more violent than the 2007-2008 post-election crisis.
“I am disappointed that a leader who once held a senior office in this country is telling Kenyans that the 2027 elections will be more violent than 2007-2008. That kind of statement alone is enough to bar that person from holding any public office—forget impeachment and the rest,” Murkomen said.
Murkomen offered firm assurances that the current administration would not tolerate any form of incitement to violence.
“I want to assure the people of Trans Nzoia—I know here we have all tribes, all religions, all nationalities. We will not allow our country to ever return to any form of violence. Never again. That is impossible. Not when Kipchumba is the Minister of Security. Not when William Ruto is the President of Kenya,” he affirmed.
