Murkomen warns of terrorism charges for financiers and inciters behind violence

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a stern warning that the government will pursue terrorism charges against anyone found financing, inciting, or participating in violent acts, including burning businesses, police stations, vehicles, and other public or private property.
While addressing the residents of Eldoret during a security meeting on July 23, 2025, Murkomen said that the government would not tolerate what he described as cheap politics that deploy youths to wreak havoc.
According to Murkomen, those acts are not mere lawlessness or mischief but qualify as terrorism under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, which includes actions such as violence, destruction of property and disrupting essential services.
The CS further warned that financiers, inciters, and direct perpetrators of violence would all be held accountable under terrorism provisions.

“Serikali haitakubali watu ambao wako na siasa duni kutumia vijana kuchoma biashara ama kuharibu mali ya wananchi ama kuchoma police station ama kuchoma magari ya wengine, Murkomen warned.
“For that reason, we will pick all the financiers, tutachukua inciters, na wale wanaenda kufanya kazi hiyo, and we will charge them for terrorism.”
Murkomen on violent protests
This comes after Murkomen issued a directive to the police officers to shoot-to-kill those invading the police station.
Speaking when he toured some of the police stations to assess the aftermath of the Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Gen Z memorial protests, Murkomen told the locals that he had ordered the police officers to shoot anyone who would invade a police station with ill intentions.
“Ile shida inafanya saa zingine polisi wapige wakora risasi ni kwa sababu wanashikwa, wanaenda alafu wanarudi kuchekelea polisi wakisema sasa tulifika wapi, hakuna kwenye tulienda. Na tumeambia polisi, mtu yeyote ambaye atakaribia police station, piga yeye risasi,” Murkomen said.

Loosely translated as: “The problem that sometimes makes the police shoot criminals is that they get arrested, are released, then come back to mock the police, asking, ‘So, where did you take us? Nowhere.’ And we’ve told the police, —Anyone who comes near a police station, shoot them.”
According to Murkomen, the goons targeted armouries and police uniforms at various police stations in the country.
